Well, once again I am headed off to
Haiti!I leave Chicago
Wednesday evening, August 1 and arrive in Port au Prince Thursday morning,
August 2 (I’ll be spending Wednesday night in the Miami airport).I’ll be staying with a missionary family that
works with Heartline Ministries,
where my brother Paul has actually been staying since July 7.I’ll be getting there in time to help with
the last week and a half of their summer English camp for neighborhood
kids.I’m also hoping to visit HCRM, the
orphanage where I lived and worked 2 years ago.
I’ll be in Haiti until August 11, when Paul and I will fly
back together to Miami. From there, I’ll be able to spend a day or so
with my family in Alachua (and go to my church in Gainesville!)
before flying back to Chicago.
As always, I would definitely
appreciate your prayers.One thing in
particular that you could be praying for is Paul’s health.A week after arriving in Haiti, he was
diagnosed with mononucleosis, and although he seems to be doing fairly well,
being sick is no fun, and I’m sure it’s frustrating for him to not be able to
do as much as he’d like to do.Also,
please pray that I would have a willing heart to serve God in whatever capacity
He asks of me and that He would be glorified in all I say and do.
Thank you, thank you, thank you,
for your continual support and encouragement…some of you have been praying for
me for years, and I can’t tell you how much I appreciate ALL of you!Although you may not have gone to Haiti or Ecuador
or Honduras
with me physically, you have definitely been a part of all of my trips because
of your prayers.THANK YOU!
I desperately need to update this, and I keep putting it off... and I'm
highly tempted now to wait until "tomorrow," but I will at least
attempt a minor update.
So basically, life is great. I
absolutely love Chicago!!! I'm going to a great church and have met
some really amazing people. The downside is that it takes me about 2
1/2 hours to get there (by el to downtown and then train to a station
near the church), but it's totally worth it.
Friday was my first
"real" day back at Starbucks, and it was a ton of fun. I'm working at
a brand-new store (Friday was the "soft open" and Saturday was the
"grand opening"), so I was off for my first three weeks in Chicago and
then spent last week helping to set the store up. The manager here is
great, and I'm enjoying getting to know some of my coworkers. And,
it's so great to be working again! The time off was nice, but I really
do love working at Starbucks.
Oh, and in other highly exciting
news, I got my electric bill Friday, and it was only $17.51, which
definitely made my day...or, well, I guess my day was already "made"
because work was so much fun, but you know. Compared to my G'ville
bill that I have to pay, too, I'm definitely liking the Chicago one!
So, Kevin, you should move to Chicago.
All righty, I've barely been home this week, so I should probably go back and get all my cleaning and laundry done now...
This is a slideshow of pictures from the mission trip to Honduras that I went on with my church May 7-13. The background music is recorded from several different church services that we attended there.
